Globalization Lab!
GoPo Globalization Lab
The interconnected world is wild. Let's figure it out. → socialstudieslab.org
Where the world shrinks, Roger investigates, and you actually learn something useful.
Is Globalization Good for You?
Globalization is the tendency of businesses, technologies, people, and philosophies to spread throughout the world. The globalized world is a totally interconnected marketplace, ideaspace, and migration zone. But here is the twist: is it actually good? And good for whom?
That is your job to figure out. Start with the glossary, run the quiz, match the terms, check current events, and submit your work to your teacher. The Beagle in Chief is watching.
The McFarthest Spot
The farthest point from a McDonald’s in the contiguous United States — known as the McFarthest Spot — is located in the Nevada desert near Tonopah. It sits approximately 120 miles from the nearest Golden Arches as the crow flies, or roughly 135–145 miles by car.
McDonald’s is so ubiquitous that most people in most places think it originated in their country. Now that is a globalized brand. Do you see globalization in this room? Look around and list 3 examples.

Describe what your supercorp does and why it rules the world.
Who is the Most Global?
Pick a winner in each category for the most global in the world. Be ready to defend your choices in class. The GoPoPup reserves the right to challenge your picks.
Also: What one thing could you bring to class (holdable, legal, not too heavy, not too valuable to lose) that BEST represents globalization?
Define Globalization Your Way
Three ways to nail down this concept before class:
Track Your Global Life
For the next 24 hours, log what you eat and drink AND 10 products you own. Score each item 1 (ultra-global) to 5 (super-local). Bring your log to share in class tomorrow.
Examples: Orange juice from Brazil = 1 | Corn grown locally in season = 3 | iPhone made in China = 1 | Jeans sewn in Raleigh NC = 5
Food & Drink Log (next 24 hours)
Product Log (10 items you own)
Know these terms cold. The GoPoPup will quiz you on them.
10 AP-style questions. Earn XP for every correct answer. The BOTUS is judging you.

BOTUS APPROVES!
The GoPoPup scanned the news. Here is what globalization looks like RIGHT NOW.
Connect It
Pick one of the events above. In your Submit Work tab, write 3-5 sentences explaining which of the five scapes it represents and whether you think it is good or bad for the average person on earth. The Beagle in Chief demands evidence, not just vibes.
Send all your Day 1 reflections and your Globalization Log to your teacher. Roger will personally sniff each submission for quality.
