What Is a Walk Up Song

A walk up song is the piece of music a baseball player chooses to have played over the stadium speakers every time they step up to bat. It is a few seconds of pure identity: the song a player picks says something about their personality, their mood, their swagger, or the image they want the crowd and the pitcher to see before a single pitch is thrown.

The idea has spread far beyond baseball. Wrestlers have entrance music, boxers walk to the ring with a chosen anthem, and politicians have used campaign songs for generations to shape how voters feel about them before they even speak a word. A walk up song is really a tool of image, symbolism, and political communication, which is exactly why it fits right into an AP Government class.
