  5. With the exception of Maine and Nebraska, the electoral college awards all of a state’s electoral votes to the candidate who gets the most votes in that state. In other words, if a candidate gets one vote more than their challenger in a state, they get all of that state’s electoral votes. Explain how the map above would change if we abolished the electoral college and instead simply awarded the presidency to the candidate who got the most votes nationwide?

  6. List all the states that have not had a single campaign visit and describe what they share in common.

  7. There are 50 states with a grand total of 538 electoral votes, but in 2024, 93% of the presidential campaign visits has been concentrated on 7 States—with a total of 95 electoral votes. Thinking about the campaign, besides all the rallies and campaign events, what else have those 7 states received a disproportionate amount of?

  8. Swing states can change over time. Identify one state that had lots of visits in 2016 but has had no visits in 2024*?

  9. Why do you think swing states change?

  10. Georgia and North Carolina are both swing states with 16 electoral votes each. Both of these states (as well as others) have recently been pummeled by natural disasters. How do you think these natural disasters will impact the 2024 election?
