The following lesson is a study of due process and the rule of law as told through the story of Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia an immigrant who was arrested and deported to the notorious CECOT prison in El Salvador.The lesson alternates between information, definitions, and the story of Mr. Abrego Garcia. 

  1. Start with definitions of terms and information about deportation costs along with questions for everyone to answer. 

  2. Read Mr. Abrego Garcia’s story, which is divided into 10 chapters, each with its own set of questions. Students can work through every chapter on their own, or you can divide your class into 8 teams that could each read one chapter of content, answer those questions, then share their information with their classmates. It’s up to you how you wish to proceed. There is a chart below for students to fill in their information about each chapter.
