Beagle

The beagle is a breed of small scent hound, similar in appearance to the much larger foxhound. The beagle was developed primarily for hunting hare, known as beagling. Have you ever been beagling? My beagle Roger is constantly beagling. The beagle is a breed described as 'merry' by its fanciers, Beagles are loving and lovable, happy, and companionable, all qualities that make them excellent family dogs. On the other hand beagles are very naughty dogs. As I was walking my beagle Roger, a lady walked up to me and pointed to Roger. “Minxy.” She said. “What’s Minxy?” I wondered. Minxy: impudent, cunning, or boldly flirtatious (used of a girl or young woman). That’s Roger. And here’s the thing about Roger, he’s very, very naughty, In the last year he has eaten multiple books, my alarm clock, a bunch of my shoes, a guitar capo, a very expensive pair of glasses, a sofa, a number of pillows, my new alarm clock, and all his toys. One day not long ago, I was walking Roger when a big burly country bumpkin came up to me and pointed to Roger. “I just love me a Lemon!” he drawled, as he patted Roger on the head. A “lemon” is a type of beagle that is more tan than the more standard black beagle color. Roger is a lemon - in more ways than one. What does this have to do with politics? Roger is very liberal. Roger cannot vote (he’s only 14 in human years). Roger cannot run for president (Article II of the Constitution lists the presidential requirements, and although it says nothing about candidates being human, Roger has not yet hit the 35 year mark. In 2008 A beagle named, Uno, made history as the first beagle to win the "Best in Show" crown at the Westminster Dog Show. If you are still confused about what beagles have to do with government and politics, read on. President Lyndon Johnson and his beloved Yuki liked to perform in the Oval Office. Yuki was found at a Texas gas station by Johnson's daughter Luci. He was one of the President's favorite dogs. President Johnson also had two beagles which he named Him and Her! Both dogs were born on June 27, 1963. Then–Vice President Johnson, who was apparently terrible at naming dogs, had a dog named Beagle that was the father of Him and Her. Sadly, both Him and Her died at a young age. Her died after swallowing a stone in 1964, and Him was hit and killed by a car when he was chasing a squirrel across the White House property in 1966. In case you are incredibly earnest I just want to be clear that there will be no questions about beagles on the exam. This beagle stuff is just for fun! Read on…

A sonnet that AI wrote to my Beagle, Roger

Traditionally, the sonnet is a fourteen-line poem written in iambic pentameter, employing one of several rhyme schemes, and adhering to a tightly structured thematic organization. The name is taken from the Italian sonetto, which means “a little sound or song.”

To Roger, my beagle, my heart's dearest friend,

Your floppy ears and soulful, pleading eyes,

Fill every day with joy that has no end,

Your playful antics, a delightful surprise.

A love so pure, a bond so true and deep,

Your wagging tail, a dance of sheer delight,

My faithful friend, my love for you I keep,

A beacon bright, shining ever so bright.

Through fields we roam, chasing squirrels with glee,

Your joyful howls, a symphony of sound,

My heart o'erflows with love for you, you see,

In your warm fur, true happiness is found.

Oh, Roger, dear, my love for you's untold,

A love so precious, a story to be told.
